The Long and short of it was that we had built a motor for a SBK 748 and found a new 996RS motor to replace it. When we built this motor, it was so amazing that when it was sitting in a crate I just felt bad that such an unreal thing was just sitting in a box. My good friend Dr. Roettinger came over one day and I said, "Lets build a bike around that motor." I had no idea what I was signing myself up for. Doc thought about it a bit and said, "why not." | ||
The idea was simple. I always thought Ducati had missed the mark with the naked bikes. The monsters had always been 2 valve jobbies with a lot of go down low but nothing up top. When they finally put a 4valve motor in the Monster, it was a 916 with a lame ass transmission. I always wanted to see a naked bike with a high revving, low CC displacement, close ration transmission, proper sup and braking weighing in as low as possible. | |||
Anyone who knows me can tell you I think the water cooled motors are the way to go and that 2valve air cooled units are cute and all, but I will take looking at a radiator and hoses anyday over low and fun and highend crap. What you see here is a very strange but an unreal combo, better then I ever expected to be honest. | |||
