We found this machine in Boston on Craigslist. The History was questionable but the price was right and it seemed all there. The Idea was for Woodman to have a bike he could push hard and not get hurt on. He pushed it... And got hurt on it.
One day, while riding along, some asshole in a suburban pulled right out in front of him. How a guy does not see a rather large man on a very loud and very red bike is amazing to me but needless to say it happened. Sadly, this was not the first time someone pulled out in front of Woodman.
You never want your Qwacker to look like this
That just looks expensive
That just looks like hell!
The Frame after coming back from Miles@motofab. This bike started as a 748LE, became an 853 and then graduated to a 996RS. The 853 motor ended up in the DocR. (sorry for the crap image)
A rarely seen angle of the SBK frame.
First run of the new 996RS motor. This motor came from a 2000 Ducati Corse HMC
Race team. It started life with 15:1 Compression ratio pistons, Ti Valves,no starter. no stator, Shower injection (165HP). What you see now is a detuned version of the original, 13:1 compression ratio Pistal pistons, Ti rods, no crank, sand cast cases, jugs and heads, Corse ultra scary close ration transmission. Tied to 54MM Throttle bodies and a full 50MM exhaust, we are getting around 144BHP on this machine.
If you look carefully, you can see the magnesium deep sump collector, only found on the RS motors.
A few months later we did an ohlins R&T front end with billet triples. Did I mention the BB slipper clutch?
Not much to it.
Let me just say a few things about this bike. I have been on a lot of bikes, and this thing is at the top of the list for down right scariness. You put it second at 97MPH, it will carry the wheel when rolled onto in 2nd, 3rd and 4th. I have never put it in sixth. It is useless under 90. It is amazing over 90. It turns like butter. It is light and whipable. It is the real thing and totally questionable to be put on the street.
I hate black seats.
Miles on the paint and JTanz on the stickers.
